I should've read a lot more than that, when you consider I was employed for the first two months of the year, and then just working and living in the countryside for the rest of it. But it's nice to say that I actually enjoyed every book I read this year. How often does that happen?
The ones that really stood out were The Beach and Blindness, clear favourites this year. I have to admit that I really did enjoy the Twilight saga, with Eclipse being my favourite and New Moon being my least favourite. Which is kind of weird, because I am totally Team Jacob and New Moon was very Jacobcentric. Anyhoo, A Lion Among Men dragged on a bit and seemed fairly pointless, and neither that nor Son of a Witch are anything compared to Wicked, which I love. Long Way Round was a good read once you got into Asian territory, but gettin there was a bit slow - I think your mindset at the time of reading really helps too. I picked it up after months of ignoring it, to read the second half, which I got through in a day or two. I was getting excited about travelling at that point too, I guess.
This year I would like to read some books that I haven't read, but really should read. None of the books I read last year fall into that category, haha. I just read them because I wanted to. So, this year I would like to read some of (not necessarily all of) these:
Lord of the Rings (inorite? I started it years ago and stopped again, was read it as a child, and love the Hobbit, so I don't know what I'm waiting for really) Chronicles of Narnia - we've had this boxset since I was little and I still haven't read it, what the hell. To Kill A Mockingbird Catcher in the Rye Fahrenheit 451 Fragile Things (Neil Gaiman, how I have I not read this yet? I got it when it was first published! I think it's because short stories are not my forte) Catch-22 Hitchhiker Trilogy On The Road (Christ, I started reading this before I went to America) The Ladies of Grace Adieu (started this already too, but it's short stories so I'm more likely to stop and start it all the time!)
And now for a list of books that I probably WILL read some of, because I want to: Year of the Flood - Margaret Atwood (Oryx & Crake is one of my FAVES I love it) Yes Man - Danny Wallace A Long Way Down - Nick Hornby Long Way Down - Ewan McGregor & Charley Boorman (already started this) The Wild Things - Dave Eggers (almost finished this) Into The Wild - Jon Krakauer
I don't expect I'll read many books this year, as I'm going to go travelling again, but we'll see. OMG I'M GOING TRAVELLING THIS YEAR YAY.
